In this article I will show you exactly how to choose a Killer Keyword for your niche, that will help you take massive traffic and sales.
Keyword research is the single most important process for any successful SEO campaign. It determines the direction that your SEO campaign will take and the keywords that you will be targeting.
It’s very tormented by competition and has much to do with the amount of effort you put into your SEO campaign. When your website is armed with enough power, with enough relevance, with enough volume of traffic and with enough commercial intent, you will hit the first page on Google in no time. It’s not magic, its science.
Step 1 – Review your product or service and create a niche.
Step 2 – Use Google Keyword Tool and get an idea of amount of traffic and competition.
Step 3 – Optimize your website for your main keyword
Step 4 – Start getting one-way links from other websites with your keyword as the anchor text.
Step 5 – Check your ranking on Google and Bing.
This is the keyword that you want to dominate. Usually it is also the keyword that is the most difficult to take control of. This is because other people have the same keyword and might be more aggressive in their SEO efforts. Therefore, when you find a keyword that isn’t dominated by too many other people, then typically you’re going to have a really tough time taking control of it.
A lot of great success can be had by going after a keyword that has a lot of traffic but doesn’t have a ton of competition. Often times in order to dominate the keyword you’ll need to find a group of related keywords that are all quite specific in nature.
Let me give you an example:
Let’s say you run a weight loss and dieting website. You could go after keywords like “weight loss”, “dieting”, “fitness” and others. You could build a website that has those keywords incorporated. Is that difficult? The answer is no, it’s not nearly as difficult as you might think.
To explain the example further, I did a couple of experiments with keyword research. I came up with some keywords that I know are related to weight loss and dieting, but yet, they have monthly searches of ONLY 1000 and less.
I took those keywords and did some initial link building on my own to get my domain name in the top ten for the keyword. Over the next several weeks, I applied the keywords into my website. Here’s what that looks like:
In just a week, those keywords suddenly went from covering the keyword phrase I was working on, to nearly doubling my monthly traffic.
(Note: You can see the results of this exercise for yourself. You can find additional keywords by searching for “keyword tools” on Google. In order to see the actual numbers of searches, you might have to click through to another search engine. If you use Firefox, you can see if the #1 site is your browser, click on Page Source and then click on paste and the URL will show up. Then you can choose the option show & find code. If you don’t see it, just Right Click on a web page and choose Source. The code should show you how your website is being indexed on Google.
Step 6 – Monitor your results and aim for double, even quadrupling your traffic with ongoing content writing and off-page optimization.
The last and final step is to take the keywords that you’ve uncovered and do searches on them. If you find there are millions of results and you’re just one of several thousands, then you’ve got a chance to compete and move up in the search rankings. For the more experienced webmasters, who’ve ranked sites before, the time to start competing is now.
You should be watching your Google rank and traffic climb. If you’ve already dominated your primary keyword, the next steps are easy. Just repeat the steps for a different keyword that you’d like to dominate.
